Midseason Report

(AP) Denver, CO

The halfway mark of the season sees the defending CCHL Champs with 46 points and in 5th place in the Jazz Conference, one point ahead of division rival Portland. The Spurs currently hold 2nd place in the USA Western Division, one point up on the previously mentioned Portland Owls and three points back of the division leading Beverly Hills Lawmasters.
It has been a disappointing season to date for the Spurs, who have barely managed to stay around .500 hockey all season.
The team seems to be unable to perform well at home, sporting a .500 record at the Coliseum in Denver.
The road has seen the Spurs post a .619 winning percentage to date, which is a repeat of last season when the Spurs were also a good road team. Go figure. If the Spurs were just able to be a bit better on home ice, they'd be in first place in the Division and would probably be knocking on the door of the Conference leading Musicmen of Dayton.
One of the reasons for the team's spotty play is the equally spotty play of netminder Marty Brodeur. He's been up and down all season, following a brilliant performance with an equally mediocre one. Hopefully Marty finds himself over the second half of the season. He'll have to if the Spurs expect to go anywhere come playoff time.

Leading the Spurs in the goal scoring department are Lecavalier (20), Sykora (19) and Hossa (18).

The assist leaders are Stastny (31), Hossa (29) and Smyth (28).
The overall points leaders are Hossa (47), Lecavalier (43) and Smyth (42).
